Husband #2. Susanna was introduced to her second husband by friends, Col. Edmond F. Holmes a wealthy widower. By this time Susanna lived in SLC. After their marriage they went on a two year honeymoon to Europe. Returning, Holmes bought her a lavish home on South Temple, called the Gardo House, which was the prestigious home of one of Brigham Young's wives. Susanna was extremely popular and lived like a princess. Famous for her parties and soiree's she was the talk of the town. Everyone knew Susanna. However, Susanna enjoyed Washington, D.C. and it's wonderful atmosphere more than SLC and soon was MIA in Utah.
After much frustration Mr. Holmes threatened that if she did not return to SLC her would sell her beloved home. Susanna came back. Not long afterwards she and Col. Holmes sold their beloved home back to the LDS church and moved to California. In 1927 Dr. Holmes died and Susanna was a widow for the second time.
