Setting up an expected 2017 Oscar run, “The Birth of a Nation,” a searing slave-revolt drama, swept the top prizes at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday night in Park City, Utah.
“The Birth of a Nation,” directed and written by Nate Parker, who also plays the film’s leading role, won the grand jury prize for a narrative film and was voted the best movie by audiences at the festival, which concludes its 11-day run on Sunday.

‘Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Becomes ‘Eagle Huntress’ Exec Producer – Sundance
EXCLUSIVE: You cannot escape the Star Wars phenomenon, even at an indie film fest just getting underway in Park City. Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley has come aboard to be executive producer of The Eagle Huntress, the first documentary to premiere in the Sundance Kids section, with a Sunday debut at the Prospector Square Park Theatre. Morgan Spurlock, exec producer of the film, divulged this to me and said that Ridley signed on after seeing a cut of the film.
