Today is the 150 year anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. We, the people of Park City and Utah owe this great man a debt of gratitude. When the Mormon pioneers first came to Utah, President Abraham Lincoln became concerned that Utah would become too Mormonized. In an effort to diversify the population he sent the Military to guard the mail routes from the local Indian population. The men he sent came from the gold mines of California. They were given specific instructions to look for precious metals. Lincoln hoped that if they found gold, it would start a gold rush and non Mormon's would flood into the area and diversify the population.
