Prostitution in Park City was bound to happen : After Silver was discovered in Park City in the 1800's a number of young, single men flocked to Park City to make their fortunes. Eventually, there were a lot of men and very few women. For the men, there were a lot of jobs but unfortunately for the women there were very few. However, any enterprising young woman could join the oldest profession in the world and make good money in Park City. All those young silver miners, making their fortune, made for a unlimited customer base. The future seemed full of promise.
Prostitution actually became a good source of revenue for the town as well. Pimps (known as Business Managers) and Prostitutes would be arrested, fined and released on a pretty continuous basis, creating a nice little income for this little pioneer town.
Prostitution continued in Park City for a very long time, but it turned out to not be a very happy solution for most women and few, if any, found any real fortune. The town's history records assaults, gun fights and violence as the result of this profession and unfortunately, most women that became prostitutes ended up taking their own lives.
