Anyone that lives in Park City will tell you, if you drink...DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DRIVING IN PARK CITY! There are only two roads leading into Park City. Hwy 224 and Kearns Blvd. Hwy 224 is called 'The Gauntlet," with good reason. Being the main road into Park City it is a convenient place for our local police to park off the side of the road and just wait for a potential drunk driver to pass. Kearns Blvd, is another great spot for our officers to hang out. There is a saying in Park City..."If you are driving after midnight in Park City and you are not a taxi, you must be driving drunk." That makes you fair game for our police. I have had many people tell me it is too expensive to take a taxi and elect to save the $15 to $25 taxi ride and drive their own car. Later, I have seen them off the side of the road, police lights on, handcuffed and their car being towed. Then I have been called by Summit Country Jail to go pick them up. That $15-$25 savings has just cost them over $5,000. First, they get arrested and have to post bail and often have to pay for a taxi to come and get them. Their car is towed. They have to hire an attorney. Their insurance rate increases. When all is said and done, the bill runs about $5,000. Locals in Park City take it very personal if they see you planning to get into your car after drinking. The people you may kill are their friends and family. So, it is not uncommon for a local to turn you in or a taxi driver to report you. If you think this is horrible, body bags are worse. So please, come and visit Park City, we love tourist. But if you are think of drinking and driving...TAKE A TAXI! |
